A resolution signed by the Ringgold County board of supervisors Tuesday morning, Feb. 13, paved the way for Ringgold
to have a county attorney. The late Arlen HUGHES, who had served in this capacity for many years, died unexpectedly in January.
Clinton L. SPURRIER has come forward and offered to perform the duties of the office of Ringgold county attorney until
such time as he can establish residency in this county. Once he has established residency he has offered to accept
appointment to fill the vacancy until the next pending election.
Deanna GROVES of Mount Ayr will be opening a redemption center in the east end of the building formerly occupied by the
Mount Ayr Mill and Feed Store on West Adams Street, Mount Ayr.
Democrat Lyle MINNICK of Mount Ayr has announced his candidacy for Ringgold county sheriff. Election would be for a
four-year term. MINNICK is in his 12th year as Ringgold county sheriff, and on Feb. 1, 1996 he began his 21st year in the
Ringgold county sheriff's office, which includes service as deputy sheriff.
Some of the top prizes given away during Place's Discount Store grand opening of its new store recently have been
announced. The 19-inch Magnavox color television set was given to Lola PEPPMEIER of Mount Ayr. The Craig four-head
VCR community prize went to Clyde SUMMERS of Mount Ayr. The stair stepper exerciser went to Marlene OSBORN of Tingley.
The Ringgold county recorder's office filed or recorded 1,539 legal documents in 1995. This information comes from a report
provided by Ringgold County Recorder Carol WEEDA and Deputy Recorder Karen SCHAEFER. County land records date back to
1856. Many visitors from the local area and from other states do genealogy research, especially during summer months.
All land records are open and available to the public.
