You hear of a romantic dinner by candlelight. Friday night a wedding party and guests finished the "rehersal
dinner" at the Mount Ayr Shamrock Cafe in the dark. When lightning, wind and ran came to the area Friday night,
August 10, they caused an hour-long power outage in the east part of Mount Ayr. This left diners, members of the
Merle WALTER-Patti WILLIAMS wedding party, at the Shamrock finishing their cake in darkness.
Mount Ayr Community golfers Joni YEAROUS and Doug SAVILLE participated in the state co-ed golf tournament held
July 29, 1985, at Waveland Golf Course in Des Moines. The couple finished 26th out of 75 teams from across the
state, with most teams from larger 2-A and 3-A schools.
Developing physical therapy programs for high school athletes and patients at the Hughes Center are two of the
goals of the new full-time physical therapist at the Ringgold County Hospital, Fieke DIJKSTRA, a native of
Amsterdam who came to the United States last year in June because "There is real unemployment in P.T. in the
Netherlands."
Foundation for the new Auto Assemblies, Inc. plant has been poured and work is continuing on construction of the new
plant which is expected to employ 100 people later in the fall. The new plant is located in the industrial park in
southeast Mount Ayr, north of the Miracle Recreation plant and east of the Mount Ayr Golf and Country Club. Wiring
harness assemblies for General Motors Corporation automobiles will be assembled at the plant once it begins
operations here.
