Mount Ayr Record-News Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa Thursday, June 14, 1984

Clean up operations continued early this week from the tragic storm last Thursday which killed two Ringgold
county residents and brought damages of more that $2 million here. Funeral services were held early this week for
Mrs. Alice TERWILLGER, 76, of Mount Ayr, who was killed when a tree fell on the car she was driving on Jefferson
Street in Mount Ayr, and Rodney DOSER, 21, of Kellerton, who was killed when he was struck by debris as he fled
his moblie home in Kellerton. Wrapped around a tree so completely that law enforcement officials here said they had never
seen an accident like it, the remains of a 1975 Chevrolet Camaro were mute evidence of yet another tragedy in Ringgold
county this week. A Florida serviceman, visiting friends in Ringgold county, was killed in an accident at 2 a.m. Tuesday
morning seven miles east of Mount Ayr and two miles south on county road P54. A passenger, Kenneth LILLENTHAL of Mount Ayr,
was thrown out of the car and was not seriously injured after the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle.
Resignations from Mr. Lorene TRIGGS, a longtime elementary school teacher, and veteran bus driver Deane SICKELS were
accepted with regret at a meeting of the Mount Ayr Community school board that lasted into the early morning hours
Tuesday.
Months of work toward the development of the Harold Hughes Treatment Center, an alcohol/chemical dependency unit at
Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr, will culminate in the opening of the center here Monday, June 18. According to John
OLIVER, program director at the 16-bed unit, the staff is in place and the first patients should be admitted this next
week. Construction is expected to be completed by that time.
Milt HENDERSON'S retirement as a part-time local pastor in the Mount Ayr United Methodist Larger Parish June 15, 1984

and vicinity wher he has lived for 43 years.
