Ringgold County Hospital staff is adding new dimensions to their diagnostic and patient care services. Ultrasound
scans have now been established for the benefit of patients. Dr. Durward M. LANG, Director of the Laboratory of Clinical
Medicine, recently presented a demonstration of ultrasound and its value in relations to other diagnostic methods to
hospital staff members as well as other interested personnel. Dr. Duane E. MITCHELL, chief of staff, stated that with
the addition of ultrasound not only will it be an excellent diagnostic investigative tool, it will be brought directly
to the patients here in this community and not require the patient to be sent for an exhaustive trip to larger cities
several hours away.
For the second time in a little over a month, fire struck the First Christian church of Mount Ayr early Tuesday morning.
And this one was no minor affair, but a full-fledged disaster. Preliminary estimates Tuesday noon were running in the
neighborhood of $150,000, according to one source. There is hardly an area of the church that was not affected by the
fire, which was discovered about 5 a.m. Tuesday.
The Howard PIERSONS of rural Mount Ayr have a sturdy six-month-old cat called Skeeter as evidenced by the fact that it
survived a 30-minute ride in the PIERSON'S clothes dryer. Mrs. PIERSON tells it like this: "I wanted to stop drying
the clothes for a while so walked to the dryer, turned it off and left the door ajar. Later I shut the door and resumed
drying the clothes." Can you imagine her horror when the drying period ended and she opened the door? The cat jumped out
and collapsed on the floor. The dryer had been on a hot setting. Mrs. PIERSON said it took the family cat about 24 hours
before it acted normal again. One plus they felt was that there were clothes in the dryer which perhaps cushioned
the bumps as the dryer went around. However, the heat was bad, the cat's tongue, when it came out, was a bright red instead
of the usual pink.
