RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, August 14, 1986

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

One of the new attractions at the Blockton city park during the Blockton Reunion last week was the new railroad caboose now in place in the park. Planning for the new addition to preserve part of Blockton's railroad heritage began back in January by the Community Betterment Committee and volunteers.

Janice "Jodi" WAGNER of Kansas City, MO will be the new director of nursing at Ringgold County Hospital. She begins responsibilities Monday, August 18, after orientation at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines and at the Ringgold County Hospital.

Newest addition to the decor on the Ringgold County courthouse square in Mount Ayr is the new telephone booth brought from the British Isles as another reminder of the Scottish heritage of the community. The red phone booth is not offering phone calling service yet but plans call for making the bright red phone booth operational as well as a landmark to look at.

Muriel JOHNSON of Mount Ayr resigned August 10 as a full-time dispatcher in the Ringgold County sheriff's office. Randy TOWNSEND has been move from part-time to full-time position to replace Mrs. JOHNSON. Eric SUMMA, who recently was discharged from the United States Navy, has been secured as part-time dispatcher and Marilyn CANNON of Mount Ayr will take training so that she may serve in this position when needed.

Chuck CALHOUN is at his home in Mount Ayr recuperating from a broken knee cap sustained in a fall August 1. CALHOUN said he was putting a piece of siding up in his garage to store it and what he was standing on gave away, sending him to the floor. A cast was applied to his left leg from ankle to hip and CALHOUN is getting around on crutches.

Ron SNYDER, formerly of Diagonal, has accepted a teaching position with the Epworth schools as high school physical science, anatomy and physiology instructor for the 1986-87 school year. He also will assist with football. Ron and his wife, Bille Jean, and two sons, Danny and Nathan, returned July 3 from two years in Brasilia, Brazil, South America, where the adults taught and their sons attended school. Until August 24 when they will make the move to northeast Iowa, the SNYDERS are visiting their parents -- Mr. and Mrs. Bill RUSK of Mount Ayr and Mr. and Mrs. Jay SNYDER of Diagonal.

The second time Mary WEISE built a complete doll house for a granddaughter, she finished the project in one and one-half years instead of the three years the first doll house took her. The completely detailed doll house was on display at the home of its new owner, Amy SHAFER, Sunday in an open house and visitors were still stopping by Tuesday to see the creation.
