A new lawn ornament can be seen at the Gordon and Bessie PARKER residence on Grant Street in Mount Ayr. An avid bear and
teddy bear collector couldn't resist the opportunity to turn a six-foot tree stump into a bear holding a honey pot. John
GEDDES of Osceola has been carving with a chainsaw for only three years. The bear in PARKER'S yard took 14 to 15 hours to
complete. GEDDES is only carving part-time while he works full-time at Osceola Foods.
"Yearbook," a play by Steven Fendrich, is the fall production of the Mount Ayr Community high school drama department.
The play will be presented Friday, Nov. 14, and Saturday, Nov. 15, in the Mount Ayr Community high school auditorium.
The Mount Ayr Pamida and the Pamida Foundation announced the award of $1,500 to the Mount Ayr Volunteer Fire Department.
Funds for the grant were made possible by Pamida's charitable golf outing held in June of 2003. Mount Ayr fire chief
Bill STULL was on hand for the check presentation from Sullins at Pamida. The money will be used for their pickup to fight
grass fires and also to replace some pagers that have been unreliable.
