Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr
A piece of history was uncovered recently in Mount Ayr. When Larry and Sandy LAMB began tearing down the house at
302 East Adams in Mount Ayr to make room for a new home, they discovered that the old building had been constructed
around a log cabin. The LAMBS had reason to suspect that there was more than met the eye to the house. The walls in
one part of the home were unusually thick. As a youngster, longtime area resident Loren LAMB had heard stories that
the house was built around a log cabin and he was curious to see if they were true. As the plaster walls of the house
were knocked away, a one-story log cabin emerged. The one-room cabin, which probably housed a pioneer family, was only
about 14 feet long and 12 feet wide.
The new store to be opened in Mount Ayr this will will be one of three new stores to open during the year for the
Place's Discount Stores. Other new facilities are slated to open in Bedford and Bloomfield and existing stores in
Glenwood and Lexington, MO will be renovated and expanded. The company opened four new locations in 1994 and is
negotiating to open four new facilities in 1996.
In honor of the 50th wedding anniversary of Joe and Helen GROSS of Mount Ayr, their children and grandchildren invite
family and friends to a reception on Sunday, July 23, at the Mount Ayr American Legion building. The couple was
married July 20, 1945 in a ceremony held on the lawn of the farm home of Helen's parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. C. H.
HAMMANS, who lived near Arispe.
