Sandy MERCER received the crown as the 1986 Ringgold County Pork Queen from the outgoing 1985 queen Becky WEEHLER at the annual Ringgold County Pork Producers and Porkettes. MERCER, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernie MERCER of Kellerton, is a senior at Grand Valley Community high school. Jan FORD of rural Ellston was presented with the Elanco Bell Ringer award for her many activities in pork production, which were listed in a poem about her dedication.

Members of the MARC board of directors officially welcome Case Power and Equipment to Mount Ayr during their open house held Thursday, Feb. 6. Brenda BABCOCK, Roger KERNDT and Bob SHAFER welcomed Case manager Dick ELLIOTT on the first anniversary of the business.

Joining the ranks of the Ringgold county sheriff's department this week will be Safetypup, the friendly superhero, animated character of the National Child Safety Council. The new puppet will be taken into schools to help present safety information.

Six Mount Ayr Community high school students will be among 200 outstanding high school junior and senior class musicians from Missouri, Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska participating in the Four-State Honor Music Festival at Northwest Missouri State University Saturday. Attending from MACHS will be Dena CARLISLE, French honr; John THOMPSON, tuba; David GREEN, trumpet; Emily McALEXANDER, B-flat clarinet; Malinda STRINGHAM, B-flat clarinet; and Robin JONES B-flat clarinet.

Barbara BOWER of Mount Ayr has announced that she will be seeking re-election to the office of Ringgold county treasurer.

Duane POORE, incumbent Democrat, has announced that he will again be a candidate for the Ringgold county board of supervisors. POORE is in the fourth year of his first tearm on the board. He and his wife live on a farm near Beaconsfield.
