Vern J. MARLER, who resides in Riley township, is the new manager of the Ringgold county committee for the Farmers
Home Administration. He succeeds H. J. MORRISON of Mount Ayr whose three-year term expired June 30. Other members of
the committee are Harold K. LORIMOR of Mount Ayr and Leo D. GIBSON of Kellerton.
Torrential rains last Wednesday night caused an estimated loss of $150,000 in bridges, culverts, roadways and crushed
rock in Ringgold county according to M. A. RUBEK, county engineer. The loss was first estimated at $100,000, but the
amount was increased to $150,000 upon further inspection this week by Mr. RUBEK and supervisors D. L. SMITHSON, John R.
NOLAN and Ernest BASTOW.
Lyle L. DUNLAY of Ringgold Post No. 172, Mount Ayr, was installed as fifth district commander of the Iowa department of
the American Legion at its convention held recently in Cedar Rapids. Lyle is a veteran of World War II and the Korean
conflict. Lyle, more commonly known as "Shorty," and his wife, Phyllis, and daughter, Diane, reside in Mount Ayr.
Belle CORNELISON of Mount Ayr has been appointed to the position of area manager of the Blue Cross Blue Shield in Union,
Ringgold and Taylor counties, announcement of which has been made by the Des Moines office.
An invitation has been extended to Arch DUNFEE and Donald DAILEy, owners of the Mount Ayr Furniture Company, to serve as
honorary judges at the Midwest Furniture Market to be held August 17, 18 and 19 in the Civic Auditorium, Omaha, NE.
