BASTOW Feed and Grain (elevator) in Mount Ayr is now the site of a new and modern feed plant, which is owned and operated
by Robert BASTOW. Mr. BASTOW has also purchased a bulk truck to deliver the feed to the coustomer's bin or feeder,
if the coustomer so desires. He is also offering grain banking service so farm-grown grain can be convertted
into feed and delivered to the farm in a short time.
The Ringgold county Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation committee announces the appointment of Bernard
SOBOTKA of Diagonal, Jefferson township farmer, as ASC office manager. Mr. SOBOTKA, son of Andrew SOBOTKA, graduated
from the Diagonal high school and attended Iowa State college [ISU at Ames] for two years. He is married and has
four children.
Thirteen small calves and approximately 80 pigs perished in a fire on the Carol SOBOTKA farm, located two miles
south of Diagonal, about 3 p.m. on April 3. In addition to a large barn, the fire also destroyed hay, feed and
tools. Mr. and Mrs. SOBOTKA were absent from home at the time and the fire had gained too much headway when
discovered to save the livestock. Carl PETERSON, who adjusted the loss of the barn, believes the fire was caused
by eight heat lamps, which had been installed the previous evening to brood the small pigs.
