John D. WARIN of Maloy, preminent farmer and petroleum dealer, was elected a member of the state board of public instruction from the fourth district of 14 counties at the convention held Wednesday of last week in Ottumwa.

The 20th annual meeting of the Rideta Electric Cooperative held Thursday morning and afternoon at the fairgrounds north of Mount Ayr attracted more than 1,000 persons, including among whom were members of the cooperative and friends.

Dean JACKSON of Kellerton, an unopposed candidate, was re-elected a member of the board of education of the Grand Valley Community school district during the annual school election held Monday. A total of 40 votes was cast.

James MOON of Monroe township and Robert BECK of Riley township, unopposed candidates, were re-elected as members of the Ringgold County Board of Education at athe election held Monday. Mr. MOON, a candidate to succeed himself as member at large, received 333 votes in 14 precincts. Mr. BECK, a candidate to succeed himself as a member from Area No. 4, polled 143 votes in two precincts.

Fire of unknown origin early Sunday morning caused damages estimated at between $20,000 and $30,000 to the Bastow Feed and Grain northeast of Mount Ayr.

Robert ROE suffered two fractured vertebrae, bruises and a lacerated hand and Mrs. ROE received bruises Saturday afternoon about 4:30 p.m. in a one-car accident seven miles south of Moulton. Mr. and Mrs. ROE were en route to Mount Ayr from Kirksville, MO when the accident happened.

The Mount Ayr Raiders football squad will open the 1963 season tomorrow (Friday) night by entertaining the Leon Cardinals on the local field. Kickoff time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Coach Joe McNEILL has 18 returning lettermen, including among whom are Rick DEFENBAUGH, Gene RICKER, Dave STILL, Joe BROWN and Milt STONE, all senior backs who saw considerable action on last year's 7-2 Raiders team.
