The Rev. and Mrs. Gayle BARNETT and three children came the first of the week from Park Ridge, IL., and the Rev. Mr. BARNETT has assumed his duties as pastor of the local United Presbyterian Church.

Robert DENNEY, a graduate of the Mount Ayr High School in 1938, received word last week that he is one of 29 boys in Iowa to receive the Sears-Robuck $150 scholarship to the Iowa State College [present-day Iowa State University] in Ames. Robert was choosen a scholarship winner because of his outstanding work in county 4-H and vocational agriculture work.

Announcement was made last week of the marriage of Hortense BEMENT to Henry JORGENSEN on September 16, 1939, at St. Joseph, MO. She is secretary to Dean F. D. BROWN a Simpson College, Indianola, and teaches shorthand and typing in the business department.

BLOCKTON - Elaine McGRATH began work last week as relief operator for the Ringgold County Mutual Telephone Company.

  • HATFIELD - Relatives have received announcement of the birth of a son to Mr. and Mrs. Wilford NAIM, of Ames, on August 30.
