The Hy-Vee Store in Mount Ayr, which was burned out late the night of July third this year, re-opened for business
yesterday at the same location, 107 N. Filmore. The supermarket has undergone major remodeling and rebuilding and is
totally modernized to today's standards. The Hy-Vee Store was established in 1947 under the trade name of Hyde's
Food Store. Walter PRITCHARD has served as manager for the last five years.
Ringgold County received a 15-year American Cancer Society award at the annual meeting of the American Cancer Society,
Iowa Division, held Saturday in Des Moines. Mrs. Doyle ANDREW accepted the award for the county, which is given for
having exceeded its quota during that period of time. Mrs. ANDREW has capable served as chairman of the Ringgold
County chapter of the American Cancer Society for the last 13 years.
STUDENT AYR -- With the football season coming to an end, the air in Mount Ayr's gymnasium been filled
with basketballs. Barry MONAGHAN, senior forward, is the only returning regular starter for Coach Dale HERRINGTON'S
team, and others returning, who saw considerable action last year are Duane MILLER, Steve JOHNSTON, Ken HUNT and
Dan COULSON. Other contenders for this year's Raider varsity team are Bob BURRELL, Alvin SICKELS, Ken MARKLEY,
Mike GILES and Jim McCREARY. ~ ~ ~ ~ The Mount Ayr Raider's 22 game winning strek
was snapped 9-14 but the Creston Panthers in the closing game of the season Friday night at Creston. The defeat
also marked the first shut out for the Raiders in 50 games.
