Near the end of the MAC school board meeting Monday night, Mary Sue WEBB, at-large member of the board, handed in a letter
of resignation effective Monday night. She will be joining her husband in Michigan, where he has accepted a corporate
computer position. Three new teachers were hired at the meeting. They were Valle SMITH as elementary special eduction teacher
for a self-contained classrooom, Kristine PETERS as a sixth grade teacher, and Martha LANDPHAIR as half-time elementary
vocal music teacher.
Eloise BROWN was named the Republican county auditor candidated and Roger TRULLINGER was named the Republican county sheriff
candidate of a reconvening of the Ringgold County Republican Convention held Monday night at the Mount Ayr Community
high school auditorium. The convention had to be reconvened when none of the four candidates for auditor receved
the necessary 35 percent of the vote to be nominated in the primary election.
Andy DeHART of Redding is reported in good condition in the Ringgold County Hospital following a shooting indicent in
Redding Friday night, July 6. At approximately 11 p.m., Andy DeHART was shot in the side during a family quarrel.
According to a hospital spokesperson, the bullet entered his right side, doing some damage to the liver area and exited
through his left side.
Christi SMITH, age six, has been selected as one of the finalists in the "Little Miss Central Iowa" pageant. Sixty girls
were chosen out of 350 applications. Christi is the daughter of Randy and Connie SMITH of Norwalk and the granddaughter
of Hank and Phyllis SMITH and great-granddaugther of Margaret and Lee FLETCHALL and Jim and Georgia SMITH, all of
Mount Ayr.
Two-year-old Korbie RINEHART, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn RINEHART of Mount Ayr, is sporting a cast on her right leg which
is expected to be with her for four weeks. The youngster was running in a yard at Loch Ayr, north of Mount Ayr, during a
July 4 outing when she fell, breaking two bones just above the ankle. She is getting around in a sheelchair -- Korbie-size.
New management has taken over at Retha's Craft, Hobby and Gift Shoppe in Mount Ayr effective Monday, June 9. Rose FUGATE
of Kellerton and Phyllis SICKELS of Mount Ayr will continue to offer craft, hobby, gift and picture framing supplies and
directions. The business will continue at its present location on Madison Street east of the northeast corner of the
square.
George KILGORE of Diagonal suffered an electrical shock and burns on his hands recently when he tried to connect a plug
in a fuse box and a 220-volt wire shorted, knocking him to the ground. M.F.A. exchange employees helped KILGORE and called the
Clearfield Rescue Squad and Lenox Ambulance Service. KILGORE was taken to the Ringgold County Hospital where he was
kept overnight for observation. KILGORE had now returend to his employement at M.F.A.
Rev. Richard HOPPER and his family arrived in May to serve as pastor at the Mount Ayr Free Methodist church.
