Rideta Electric Cooperative members from a four-county area gathered for the last time as members of the cooperative
under the Rideta name when the group's annual meeting was held in Mount Ayr Tuesday night. Effective January 1, 2004,
the cooperative will merge operations with Southwest Iowa Service Cooperative located in Corning and Stanton to
become Southwest Iowa Rural Electric Cooperative, bringing to a close 62 years that the cooperative has had the
Rideta name.
Whole-Hearted Ministries located outside of Diagonal was welcomed by the Chamber of Commerce with a ribbon cutting
on Friday. The retreat site is organized by Gary and Bonnie JAECKLE and is a place for extended intensive retreats
for youth, men and women and church groups.
A Mount Ayr Driver won the Figure 8 races at Adel Saturday night, sweeping to victory in a class of 42 cars. Brett
SHIELDS of Mount Ayr drives number 8 in the Figure 8 racing. With the win Saturday, SHIELDS is now ranked second in
point total going into the season finale Saturday at Adel.
Incumbents were named to fill most of the school board posts elected Tuesday in teh school election where there were
no races on the ballots. Named to the Mount Ayr Community school board were incumbents David RICHARDS and Rod SHIELDS.
Names to the Diagonal school board was incumbent Phil MASON. Elected to the Clearfield Community school board were
Michele SOBOTKA, Marcy HANCOCK and incumbent Jennifer WILLIAMS. SOBOTKA was chosen to fill an at-large
term after no one ran for the spot on the ballot. In other election for county voters, Larry GILES received 57 votes
in Mount Ayr and 39 votes in Diagonal for a district spot on the Southwestern Community College board of directors.
He was running unopposed for the position and is also an incumbent.
