Committee members and 4-H leaders were honored at the 4-H Recognition Night, sponsored annually by Rideta Electric Cooperative, Inc. Thomse honored were Ivan DENNIS, Duane TRIGGS, Mrs. Richard SALTZMAN, Mrs. Elmer HIGHTSHOE, Mrs. Virgil CANNON and Mrs. Milton HENDERSON.

The Mount Ayr Raiders edged nearer the Blue Grass crown Friday night with a 77-62 victory over Seymour on the losers' court. Osceola kep pace as they downed the Lamoni Demons, 89-70, at Osceola.

Two traffic deaths occurred in Ringgold county during the past year [1959], according to a compilation of accidents by sheriff Warren A. DRAKE and deputy sheriff Doyle SCOTT. They were Darold McCLURE of Decatur City who was fatally injured January 7 in a two-car accident east of Mount Ayr on Highway 2; and, John O'NEAL of Tingley who died April 8 from injuries received the week previous when he fell from a pickup on the streets of Tingley.

Raymond BAKER is the new president of the Mount Ayr Golf and Country Club. BAKER succeeds Kenneth WILSON. J. H. EDDY was elected vice president and Royce DAVIS was re-elected secretary-treasurer. Mrs. Sam NEWTON was selected as the new president of the womens' divisions to succeed Mrs. Elmo ROE.

Fire caused extensive smoke damage Monday morning to the Chat and Chew Cafe in Tingley. The fire, thought to have been caused from defective wiring of electrical kitchen equipment, was discovered about 6:30 a.m. when the managers, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin MILLER, opened the cafe.

At the special school reorganization election held last Wednesday, 82.62 percent of the voters favored the merger of the Tingley Independent School District and the Tingley Township District with the Mount Ayr Community school district. Tabulation of the votes cast was 271 in favor of the proposal and 57 against.

  • Feb. 8, a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Harley CLYMENS of Des Moines
  • Feb. 9, a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Keith WHITSON of Beaconsfield
