The Mount Ayr Community school board hired two special education teachers to fill vacancies needs because of a large
influx of special students in the district this year. Hired as a special education teacher at the Mount Ayr Community
elementary school was Amy HOFFMAN. Hired as a special education teacher at the Mount Ayr Community high school was
Brandi SHIELDS.
A Mount Ayr business was among some 200 businesses from across Iowa recognized at the second Iowa Century Business
Recognition held Monday in Des Moines. The Mount Ayr Record-News, which has been in existence since 1964, was
one of the businesses honored for having served the public for over 100 yars. Last year Ringgold Mutual Insurance was
honored under the same program.
A special honor in the Masonic Lodge was awarded to Gary McCULLOUGH, who is a member of Peace Lodge #12 in Dawson Creek, British
Columbia, Canada and the Faith Lodge No. 170 in Mount Ayr. McCULLOUGH received teh rank and title of Honorary Senior
Grand Warden this past summer. McCULLOUGH is a former Ringgold county resident who has lived in Canada for many years.
