RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, April 11, 1985

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr Record-News

The Diagonal-Clearfield schools sharing plan, which has been in the process of being arranged for several months now, was affired by Diagonal and Clearfield boards of education at a meeting held Monday, April 8, at Diagonal. The finalized plan, accepted by both, calls for housing 10-12th grades at Diagonal, grades sixth through ninth at Clearfield and kindergarten through fifth grades in a center at each town.

Two Ringgold County high school students were among 50 students from across the state named as recipients of scholarships awarded this year by the Grand Lodge of Iowa, A.F. and A.M. Beth A. STILL of rural Kellerton, a senior at Grand Valley Community high school, and Vanette H. HUNT of Diagonal, a senior at Diagonal-Clearfield high school, will each received $50 as a part of $25,000 given by Iowa Masons and their friends to help students pursue post-secondary educational plans.

Vanette HUNT, a nine-years 4-Her from Diagonal, will be one of six Iowa delegates to the 55th annual National 4-H Conference in washington, D.C., April 13-19. She also will represent Iowa as a national 4-H ambassador.

"The Office," a bar and restaurant just off the northeast corner of the Mount Ayr square, is under new management and ownership this week. Bob D. SMITH has purchased the business from Ruth CAVENDAR, who has had "The Office" since 1979, and has been in business in Mount Ayr for 33 years.

Word has been received here that Charles Lloyd TYLER was denied an early release from Anamosa Men'ts Reformatory by a Winterset district court judge. TYLER was sent to Anamosa after a fall of 1981 sentencing on charges of robbert and murder in connection with the death of Mount Ayr Community school teacher, Alberta MICHAEL.
