RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, November 10, 1988

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr Record-News

For what may be the first time ever, a Mount Ayr community high school FFA member will play with the national band at the national FFA convention in Kansas City this year. Marcy MILLER, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Keith MILLER of Mount Ayr, will be playing the clarinet as part of the 100-plus member band chosen from musicians from all over the country. Members of the band were selected after tapes were submitted as an audition for spots with the band, which will be featured at the national FFA's 61st annual convention November 10-12 in Kansas City, MO.

When the 23,000 members of FFA from across the country meet in Kansas City this week for the national convention, 19 FFA chapter members from Ringgold county will be part of the group. Representing the Mount Ayr Community high school chapter will be 13 students while the Grand Valley Community high school chapter will have six students attending the convention.

The Mount Ayr Greenhouse, a Mount Ayr landmark, is being dismantled to make way for a new church home for Saint Joseph's Catholic church in Mount Ayr. The church has purchased the property and work began this week to dismantle the greenhouse building. the Mount Ayr Fire Department has expressed interest in expanding next door to the current church location once the church makes a move to a new building.

Two long-time Kellerton firemen were honored with plaques by the Kellerton fire department Sunday afternoon. Oscar REED, who has been a department member 25 years, and Walter MILLER, who has served for more than 20 years, were given plaques by fire chief Marion STARK in a ceremony Sunday. Oscar REED was also being honored for his retirement from REED Plumbing in Kellerton. When all the firemen had gathered at the fire hall to come to the community center, things were postponed for a short time while they went on a fire call.
