Francis MAXWELL, special agent of Warren county, has been hired as agency manager for Farm Bureau Insurance Services in Ringgold and Taylor counties, effective as of December 1, 1960. MAXWELL has been with Farm Bureau Insurance Services for two and one-hald years as a special agent under Marion VANDERWERF and comes to the county highly recommended.

Neil CHICKEN of Greenfield has been appointed extension director for Ringgold county, announcement was of which has been made by Floyd ANDRE, Dean of Agriculture, Iowa State University, Ames, and Ira CAMPBELL, president of the Ringgold Count Extension Council. He will assume his duties on January 1, 1961.

During the 83rd annual meeting of the Grand Chapter of Iowa, Order of Eastern Star, held Monday through Thursday in Des Moines, Mrs. Raymond BARKER of this city was appointed as a district instructor.

X. T. PRENTIS, veteran Republican legislator, was successful in his bid for his return to the state senate from the fifth district, winning all three counties over Herman FENNEMA.

John PETERSEN, senior, was among those who qualified as clarinetists for the All-State Orchestra, in try-outs held Saturday in Shenandoah. Bill SULLIVAN, tuba player, was also eligible to compete in the try-outs, but was unable to do so because of illness. Mr. [Allan M.] SULLIVAN, band director, and Mr. HURST, vocal music instructor, accompanied the students to Shenandoah.

The TAYLOR sisters -- Roma, Twila and Dixie -- daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne TAYLOR of Diagonal won first place honors in a district Rural Amateur Talent Event Contest held Saturday in Red Oak.

R. E. HAUPTMANN, who is serving his 19th year as vocational agriculture instructor in the local high school, has received a citation for leadership from the American Vocational Association.
