Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr
Thieves entered the J. & R. Implement Company office in Mount Ayr Friday night, forced a hole in the safe, took about
$50 in cash and strewned papers and records over the office in search of anything of tangible value. Entrance to the
building was gained through a window on the north and near the rear of the shop. A door between the shop and the office
was opened by breaking the glass and turning the night lock. The dial was knocked off the safe, the outer covering was pealed
back and a hole was made in the door to gain access to the money and records. A fingerprint expert from the state bureau of
investigation was in Mount Ayr Saturday and is working on the case with Sheriff H. P. TODD.
The Mount Ayr Hotel, owned and operated for nine years by Paul E. EVANS, was sold Tuesday to Mabel RICE and Gary
McCULLOUGH. Possession will be given March 15. Mrs. RICE, a well-known implement dealer, and her husband also own the
Clinton Motel. McCULLOUGH is in training at the Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. The name of the new manager has not been
announced.
Helen FENNEMA and Emmett R. WARIN will be unopposed as candidates to succeed themselves as directors of the Independent
School District of Mount Ayr. Mrs. FENNEMA is a candidate for the regular three-year-term, while Mr. WARIN, who was
appointed to succeed Robert HUDSON, will be a candidate for the unexpired two-year-term.
