A special feature of the July 4 activities in Mount Ayr Friday was the recognition of John FAUST, possible the oldest
World War II veteran in the state and the oldest living World War II Seabee in the United States. FAUST, who is 84,
has been a member of the Ringgold Post 172 of the American Legion for 34 years and was honored with a presentation
by the Legion post and with a letter from Iowa Governor Robert Ray.
Bruce HENDERSON, girls' track coach at Atlantic, has been named Southwest Iowa regional coach of the year by the Iowa
Association of Track Coaches. HENDERSON is a former outstanding Mount Ayr Community athlete. He is the son of
Milt and Marion HENDERSON and was a 1966 graduate of Mount Ayr Community and a 1970 graduate of the University of
Northern Iowa. He received a master's degree from Winona State in Minnesota last summer.
