Lewis TULLIS is hauling the mail from the Burlington depot to the post office in a brand new wagon completed this week by Fred JOHNSON. The new vehicle is painted red and is re-enforced with steel pipes and is large enough to hold even a most extraordinary amount of mail.

Prof. and Mrs. L. B. FOSTER will moved soon to Marshalltown, where he has accepted a position as teacher of music in the conservatory, and where they plan to make their home.

A deal was concluded this week whereby Austin AGEE purchased the building of Henry HUCK back of the FORQUER livery barn, which has been used the past few months by WHITMORE & CRECELIUS for an automobile storage shop, and where he will start a blacksmith shop.

Ed DUGAN and workmen loaded his threshing outfit on a C.B. & Q. flat car and it was shipped this afternoon to Allen, NE., where he will operate it this year. He and his son, Guy, who will assist with the work, accompanied the outfit.

In the past two and one-half years, the city of Mount Ayr has shown its progressive spirit to the expenditure of approximately $500,000. Include among the improvements are the new school building, $45,000; water-works, $45,000; sewer system, $37,000; paving of principal streets in Mount Ayr, $75,000; creamery, $9,000; SHELDON, WILSON and FRY homes in Sheldon Heights, $45,000; Baptist Church, $17,000; Christian Church, $20,000; M. E. Church, $27,000; and special library tax of $1,000 per year for library upkeep.

REDDING - Mary WEAVER, of Blockton, has been hired to teach the grammar room this coming year.

KNOWLTON - W. H. WRIGHT, Jr., of Seymour, has accepted the principalship of the Knowlton school for the coming year.

DIAGONAL - Prof. F. M. MOUNTS of Des Moines, who is to have charge of our schools for the coming year, and Mrs. MOUNTS arrived with their household goods Tuesday and are moving into the house recently vacated by Roy SHEETS.

  • BENTON - Mr. and Mrs. Eber GERMAN are the proud parents of a baby girl, born July 26.
  • KNOWLTON - Born, Sunday, to Mr. and Mrs. Frank SIMPSON, a daughter.
  • DIAGONAL - A baby girl was born last Sunday evening to Mr. and Mrs. Milo BAILEY.
  • MALOY - Born, to Mr. and Mrs. Leo SHAY, a new girl.
  • A daughter was born this morning, August 13, to Mr. and Mrs. Harry STAMPER, of Washington township.
