Ellis S. Crawford, of Ellston, is announced as winner in the boys' essay contest in Ringgold county and will be entitled to the free trip to the Iowa State Fair. The subject upon which the boys were required to write was "How Good Roads Benefit the Iowa Farmer."

J. S. McMaster has installed a new corn popper in connection with his meat market. It is run by electricity, doing everything from feeding the corn into the popper to buttering and salting it. There is also a peanut roaster in connection.

The result of the election held Tuesday afternoon for the purpose of voting $4,000 bonds for use in completing the new schoolhouse was 86 for and 45 against.

The Village Improvement Society has voted to rent a plot of ground owned by William White in the south central part of the city, to be fitted up as a playground for kiddies and also as a recreation and picnic park. There will be swings, seats, tables and apparatus for children's play and a supervisor for the children two days a week.

The two taborets in the window of the J. A. Williams store were made by Carol Williams, who is in her junior year. This shows that girls can take manual training and make a successful of it the same as any one else. This branch in the public schools is taught by Prof. W. H. Fasold.

On May 19, four young ladies and four young men will graduate from the Kellerton High School with high honors. They are Gracia H. Peasley, Opal Cecil, Flossie Ione Woolums, Jennie M. Richardson, Roy Hewitt, Carhart Bowlby, Alfred Merrill and Henry Guess.

DELPHOS - Clyde Rice, who has been clerking in Stedman and Rice's store the past year, went Monday to Gladbrook, where he has accepted a position as clerk in one of the stores.

KELLERTON - Glen Smith has traded for the restaurant at Grant City, MO., now owned by Ernest Manning. Mr. Manning will move to the farm where Mr. Smith is now located.

Wallace Farmer has purchased the large hardware store owned by R. Emerson and will moved to his residence in north Kellerton the first of the year and take possession of the business.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Earl Deibert, of Delphos, on May 9, a daughter.
