The town council of Mount Ayr completed its organization on January 2 and committee appointments were announced by Mayor J. L. SCHARDEIN. The oath of office was administered during a meeting held December 4. Helen SCHARDEIN was reappointed town treasurer to fill the vacancy and the oath of office was administered by town clerk Opal C. RUSK.

The W. T. TIMBY Building, located south of the square and formerly occupied by the Ford Agency, has been leased by the board of education of the Mount Ayr Community school district for utilization by the high school industrial arts department.

Maurice HANSON of Grant township was elected chairman of the Ringgold County Board of Supervisors during its recent reorganization meeting. He is serving his third year of a first term of office. Other members of the board are Raymond FROST, who is serving his second year of his first term and Howard E. RICE, who succeeded Ernest BASTOW as of January 1.

Paul HIXSON, who has served one year as county engineer, was re-employed for the year 1964 at an annual salary of $10,000, an increase of #1,000.

Member of the Ringgold county board of social welfare -- Mrs. Clyde LESAN of Mount Ayr, Floyd CREVELING of Beaconsfield and John BOYD of Tingley -- were reappointed for another year. Raymond BUCK of Rice township was reappointed county weed commissioner. L. W. (Joe) GROSS was renamed executive secretary of the Ringgold county soldiers' relief commission.

A student in the Mount Ayr Community high school and two Union county young people were killed late Friday night in a head-on collision of two cars southeast of Arispe. Dead at the scene of the accident were Kenneth EIGHME, 16, of Tingley, a sophomore in the local high school and a member of the wrestling squad; James WEEDA, 21, of Shannon City, and Barbara BROWN, 17, of Afton. The only survivor of the crash, Daniel HUDSON, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph HUDSON of Afton and driver of the car in which Miss BROWN was a passenger, is a patient in the Greater Community Hospital in Creston, convalescing from chest injuries, a fractured leg and multiple facial lacerations.
