With renovation of the area completed and arrival of the dialysis machines during the past week,the Ringgold County
Hospital is ready to provide kidney dialysis to its first patient Friday, August 10. The remodeled area includes five
dialysis stations, a conference room complete with telemedicine service, toilet, machine maintenance area, equipment
room and family waiting room. The hospital has eight patients on the waiting list for dialysis. At maximum use, the
unit can provide dialysis for 15 patients on three shifts.
Five employees have been named as the new employees under the new 21st Century Learning Grant for students and families
in three Ringgold county area school districts. Marci JOHNSON will be the new project director for the Site for Learning
project. Joe LUCAS has been chosen for the Clearfield site coordinator. Lisa TAYLOR has been named Diagonal site
coordinator. Jody GREENE has been hired as the Mount Ayr Community elementary school site coordinator.
Tessa BARNES is named for the Mount Ayr Community high school's alternative school site coordinator.
For the second year in a row, one of the Iowans of the Day at the Iowa State Fair will be a Ringgold county resident.
Arlene SOBOTKA of Diagonal will be honored this year in the program sponsored by the Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation
and Cookies Food Products.
A reception was held Thursday, August 2, to recognize the retirement of Nancy ROE as librarian at the Mount Ayr Public
Library. Mary Kathryn GEPNER is the new librarian replacing ROE.
At the Ringgold County Fair Mekenze BISHOP showed the reserve champion market beef and Cole WILLIS showed the reserve
champion commercial heifer. Justin FARIS of Mount Ayr showed the grand champion pen of three market hogs at the Ringgold
County Fair. He also had the reserve grand champion market pig and the top carcass hog.
Ron SICKELS of Mount Ayr placed first in the 40-49-year-old age group at the Iowa Games bicycle time trials July 20.
SICKELS covered the 20-kilometer course in 30 minutes and five seconds. He averaged 24.7 miles an hour for the ride.
