It's Ayr Days time again. Friday, Saturday and Sunday Mount Ayr puts together its biggest festival of the year, when
the area's Scottish heritage is celebrated. This year's schedule has an even wider variety of activities than in the
past and there has been interest shown in the celebration from a wider area as well Winners in the gardening
contest for Ayr Days were announced this week in preparation for the annual celebration. Winner in the flower garden
category ws the garden of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil KENDIG of Mount Ayr. Honorable mention in this category went to Ina NAPIER.
The bed and border category was won by Clearview Home of Mount Ayr. Honorable mention went to Kathryn RICHARDS. The winner
of the window box and planter category was Mrs. Don FRIDAY and honorable mention went to Mrs. Freeman LEE.
Rideta Electric Cooperative will be hosting an open house at its new headquarters in Mount Ayr Tuesday, Sept. 13, in
conjunction with its annual meeting.
Ringgold county voters will go to the polls Tuesday, Sept. 13, to choose members of school boards in the area and
members of the board of Southwestern Community College in Creston. Voters will not have many choices to make - the only race
in the election will come in the Grand Valley school distric where Eldon STILL and Thomas L. GILES of Kellerton are
facing each other in the district 1, wihc includes Kellerton and the southwest part of the school district.
New director of ambulance services at Ringgold County Hospital is Mike BUMAN, a paramedic who with his wife, Tamara,
will provide a new level of emergency medical aid for people who need help in the Ringgold county area. BUMAN will also
be the first full-time director of the ambulance program since the hospital took over the service in 1977. BUMAN replaced
Jim SCHAFER as held of the service. SCHAFER will remain on the ambulance staff and as head of the respiratory therapy
department.
John and Debbie LARSEN of 205 South Lincoln Street and their two sons, Dustin, 18 months, and Grant, 12 days, have been
welcomed by Mary WIESE, chairperson of the Newcomer Committee for MARC. John is a mathematics teacher at the Mount
Ayr Community high school and Debbie will be coaching in the Mount Ayr Community junior high - girls basketball and
track. The family moved here from Cedar Falls.
Quality wood products, the best that can be made by the staff at Woodlink, will be the goal of the newest Mount
Ayr business, still in the organizational stage. Larry FOLTZ of Mount Ayr, on-site manager, and his partner, Link
NYLEN of Des Moines, would like to see their specialty items, such as a handmade rocking horse, become heirlooms.
Four seniors are participating in the cross-country program at Mount Ayr Community high school this year. Seniors are
Ranea SMITH, Robert DAVISON, Eric MOE and Billy HIGHTSHOE.
