James Carr, son of Mrs. Katie Carr, of Maloy, has received special recognition for the second consecutive year for his ability as a basketball player at Creighton University, where he is a student. Jimmy was an outstanding player during his high school years and was a forward on the championship Irish team.

Ray F. Dull, of St. James, MO., has been elected to fill the vacany left by John Weland as band, mathematics and science instructor in the Mount Ayr School. Mr. Weland, who has bee employed in the local school for the last four years, has accepted a Civil Service position and left Tuesday for Chicago, where he will report for duty.

Robert McCreary has been selected as one of the five outstanding vocational agriculture students and F. F. A. members in the state of Iowa. Because of this honor, he will be one of the five Iowa boys to compete for the American Farmer Degree to be awarded at Kansas City this fall. Bob was selected because of his outstanding agricultural and school records.

Virginia Gilliland, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Gilliland, of Kellerton, began work Friday as operator at Hazel's Beauty Shop. Miss Gilliland is a graduate of Thompson's Beauty School in Des Moines.

Lois Powell, of Redding, began work Tuesday as [a] waitress in the Bryant Sandwich Shop.
