Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa

Mount Ayr is to have a first class dairy, which will be conducated by W. E. DAVIS. Mr. DAVIS has a fine herd of choice dairy cows and expects to be ready for business about the first of April

Alice MAXWELL went Saturday to Indianola, where she will study music and drawing in Simpson College.

John McCLANAHAN purchased Friday from Henry HUCKE his property on Depot Street and will conducty a produce house, Mr. McCLANAHAN has been engaged in the produce buying business for a number of years and is thoroughly familiar with the business.

At the telephne meeting held Saturday, R. M. BOWLBY was hired to run the switchboard for a year commencing March 1.

On last Tuesday, the grocery and meat firm of Farmer & Poor purchased the restaurant belonging to J. A. McNERNY & Co. on the northeast corner of the square and they will move their stock of goods from the present location to the building occupied by the restaurant. In connection with their grocery and meat market they will continue the sale of bakery goods and soft drinks, but will not serve meals.

The executive committee of the Mount Ayr Community Club met recently to organize and elect new officers as follows: R. C. SMITH, president; H. S. TYRREL, vice-president; W. B. BUCK, recording secretary; Bert TEALE, treasurer; and, C. B. CARR, general secretary.

KELLERTON - S. A. MILES has traded his property in our city for a large hardware and implement store at Murray, where he and his family expect to move about March 1.

SHANNON CITY - The final contest of the literary society was held Friday evening and first place winners were Maude MARTIN, oratorical; Opal STEVENSON, dramatic; and, Mabel SMITH, humorous.

NORTH WASHINGTON - Jerry KLEJCH and Lillian JEZEK surprised their many friends by going to Des Moines where they were married Monday.

DIAGONAL - Evla OHM, of Ellston, who was elected to teach the fifth and sixth grades in our school, came Tuesday to take charge of the work. Mrs. REES of our city, has had charge of the work while the board was securing a teacher.

Homer STEVENS loaded out his household goods and farming implements the first of the week to Diagonal to be shipped by way of Van Wert to Kellerton, where they will make their home.

BIRTHS:

  • KELLERTON - Mr. and Mrs. Clarence SHANER are the proud parents of a beautiful daughter, born to them on February 5.
  • Dr. and Mrs. D. R. DUDLEY are the parents of a daughter, born February 10. The little lady has been named Sarah Elizabeth.
