Larry HOPKEY, for the past six years general manager at Rideta Electric Cooperative in Mount Ayr, has resigned that post
and will be going to Mount Pleasant in January 1989 to start a new position. He has accepted the post of manager of
Southeast Iowa Cooperative in Mount Pleasant. HOPKEY'S wife, Virginia, is a kindergarten teacher in the Mount Ayr schools.
The Christmas season is celebrated in Mount Ayr again this year with a large nativity scene in the yard of Wilson-Watson
Funeral Home. One of the featurs of the scene unusual for this time of December is the green grass of the yard on which it is
setting.
At least four Ringgold county residents have won $1,000 prizes in the latest Iowa Lottery ticket game. The lastest winner was
Verlin FISHER of Mount Ayr who had a winning ticket purchased at Doc's Place in Mount Ayr this past week. Also winning
$1,000 recently were Karen PETTIT of Mount Ayr, who purchased her ticket at Small Corral; Cindy SNETHEN of Redding, who
purchased her ticket at Mount Ayr Foods; and Peggy HENRY of Mount Ayr, who purchased her ticket at Hy-Vee.
The Grand Valley schools, Kellerton site, and both north and south sites of FS Grain and FEED Ltd. in Mount Ayr suffered
losses at the hands of thieves last week.
Cecil DOLECHECK of Kellerton received the Ringgold County Farm Bureau recognition award at the IFBF annual meeting in
Des Moines December 1. The Ringgold County Farm Bureau received gold star recognition for its 1988 programs in membership
activities and silver star recognition for the activities of its public relations committee.
Two Grand Valley high school students have placed in an honor band under the direction of Rober MEUNIER of Drake University,
Des Moines, following an audition in Indianola December 1. Earlier, Stacia SHAUB and Rick VANDERFLUGHT had been chosen
for memberhsip in the South Central Iowa Band Association's high school honor band to play in a festival to be held
January 7, 1989 in Des Moines. SHAUB was designated as a second-chair flutist and VANDERFLUGHT, third chair trumpeter.
Krista SHAHA of rural Mount Ayr came home from the state "Make It Yourself With Woll" competition with a third placing in
the senior sewers division and an honorable mention in the purchased garment category. She qualified by being the first
place winner in both divisions at a district 3 contest in Creston November 5.
