Wilkie Day in Des Moines on Monday was another gathering of the Republican clans of Iowa and it appears that the Ringgold county Republican orgaization
succeeded in stealing the show. Heading the procession to Des Moines was Billie FINCH, president of the local Wilkie Club. The car displayed a
3x9 foot banner which read, "Mount Ayr, Ringgold County . . . The Home of the First Wilie Club . . . Win With Wilie." In Mr. FINCH'S car were
Charles J. LEWIS and Chas. J. LESAN, chairman and secretary, respectively, of the regular Republican organization. On arriving in Des Moines, the
car was given parking space in front of the Savory Hotel, where it attracted attention and favorable comment throughout the day.
Freeland's Store recently delivered the following items to the State Department of Social Welfare for use in the WPA sewing rooms throughout the state:
612 dozen buttons for use on dresses and smocks; 66,816 dozen over-all slides for use on the suspenders of overalls; 66,816 dozen overall loops, commonly
called buckles, and 52,128 dozen buttons caps, used to fasten the overall button on the overall.
Frank C. LEWIS, member of the law firm of Lewis & Lewis, has been appointed a member of the board of social welfare of Ringgold county, to fill the
vacancy caused by the resignation of his brother, Chas. J. LEWIS, who was recently elected chairman of Ringgold County Republican Central Committee.
Two former Mount Ayr girls and their husbands were among the guests at a dinner served Sunday by Mr. and Mrs. Gardner COWELS, Jr., in honor of Mr. and Mrs.
Wendell Wilkie on the occasion of the presidential nominee's visit to Des Moines. They were Peter JANSS, Polk County county Republican chairman, and
Mrs. JANSS (Esther FULLER), and William R. PERRY, chairman of the sixth district Young Republicans of Iowa, and Mrs. PERRY (Ann WHITE).
