"Tingley Halloween Will Never Die" was the message the winning group brought to the Tingley Halloween Fun Night parade in
Tingley Thursday. The 56th annual celebration brought good crowds for the parade and parties. The group of Marlene ZARR,
Mindy LESAN, Theola WEEDA and Patty STARK won the group of three or more competition with the entry which included a dummy
which sat up in the coffin the women were carrying.
Two Mount Ayr Community FFA chapter members received their American Farmer degree awards at the national convention in
Louisville, KY last week. Michael BAKER and Andy McALEXANDER became the 36th and 37th members of the Mount Ayr Community
FFA chapter to receive the national award. BAKER is the son of Mark and Janelle BAKER of rural Diagonal and a 2001 graduate
of Mount Ayr Community high school. McALEXANDER is the son of Jerry and Rose McALEXANDER of Beaconsfield and is a 2001
graduate of Mount Ayr Community high school.
A Mount Ayr Community high school student has been selected to play with the Iowa All-State orchestra at the all-state
music festival in Ames Saturday. Clara TERRELL of Maloy will play her oboe with the orchestra during the festival. This is
TERRELL'S second time to play at all-state. She played with the all-state band two years ago before spending a year in
Germany as an exchange student.
U. S. Representative Leonard BOSWELL met with a Mount Ayr student who is seeking a nomination to one of the U. S. Armed
Services Academies. Mark TRULLINGER, a Mount Ayr Community high school senior, is seeking one of the nominations in the
Third Congressional district. Receiving a Congressional nomination is required in order to be considered for admission to
one of the nation's military academies. Academy applicants are then selected and announced in the spring of 2003.
Three Mount Ayr Community high school color guard members received division I ratings at the state solo color guard and
drill team competition held in Pella Saturday. Stephanie NOBLE, Bobbie COMER and Haley BAKER each received division I
ratings in the color guard competition.
