Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr
The Leo HACKER residence in Mount Ayr was struck by lightning Monday morning during the centennial parade
and caused damage in the amount of $700. The lightning struck the aerial of the HACKER'S television set and followed
a guy wire into the house on the west well and windows on the north and west were broken. Damage was caused to
every downstairs room -- kitchen, dinning room, living room and bathroom. Light fixtures were damaged, outlets were
blown from the walls, the woodwork was blackened, the television set almost completely wrecked, walls were cracked
and tiles were blown off the bathroom walls. Luckily there was no fire, in spite of the fact that draperies, which hung near the
television set, were badly scorched. Fortunately no one was in the house when it was struck.
