Tonight (Thursday) is the opening night for the run of the play "Faith County" by Mark Landon Smith, the latest
production by the Moonlighter Theather Group.
Honored at the dinner break in the Raider Relays last Tuesday night were two Ringgold County National Guardsmen who recently
returned from service in the Middle East - Specialist Scott HENSLEY of Mount Ayr and Sergeant E5 James MILLER of
Tingley.
Amanda HYNEK, a student at Mount Ayr Community high school, was one of 17 Iowa high school students who participated
in the Capitol Project '04 held in Des Moines recently. Capitol Project is a nonpartisan program for high school
students to learn and experience their state government in action first-hand. The program was sponsored by
Secretary of State Chet Culver and first Lady Christie Vilsack.
The late Dennis TASSELL was inducted into the Iowa Girls Coaches Association Hall of Fame at an honor banquet in
Cedar Rapids recently. TASSELL was a coach in the Diagonal community school district from 1972 to 1992 and then went on to
coach at Central of Fenton from 1993 to 1999. During that time his girls teams had a record of 460 wins and 135 losses.
Despitte high winds, more than 70 attended the the ground blessing held for the new United Baptist-Presbyterian
Church west of Mount Ayr at the corner of Highway 2 and 169 South on Sunday, April 18. The church broke ground in
March. The new church will be in construction all summer. Members of the United Presbyterian and First Baptist
Church in Mount Ayr consolidated officially January 1, 2004. However, members of both churches have been worshiping together
since July 2003.
