RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, July 06, 1978

Lindsay Ricker, Mount Ayr

Several new features have been added to the 1978 Ringgold County Fair. An additional evening of entertainment has been added and for the first time in several years, rides and concessions will provide activities for young and old. A demolition derby will bring together drivers from the area with a desire to crash and smash. A garden tractor pulling contest for younger drivers will offer prizes and an open class steer show will be staged.

Two Mount Ayr youth -- Jerry NOBLE and Teri KRAMER -- finished high in a talent show held Sunday night, July 2 at McKinley Park in Creston. NOBLE, age eight, won first in the division for nine-year-olds and under. He played the drums Sunday and Tuesday evenings. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Rollin NOBLE of Mount Ayr. KRAMER, the 14-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bob KRAMER of Mount Ayr, won second place in the division for 13-15 year olds, with her baton twirling routine.

Father Larry HOFFMAN is leaving the area for a new pastorate at Logan and Mondamin, IA. He has been serving on the three-priest team which ministers to the Catholics of Clarke, Decatur, Ringgold and Wayne counties. A farewell reception will be held for him.

A group of Ringgold county young people are planning a carnival with proceeds to go to the muscular dystrophy fund. Games for all ages will be featured along with other activities. Heading up the carnival are Joyce MAUDLIN, Shelley FLOYD and Donna JOHNSON.

Tammy Renee BOWER, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold BOWER of Mount Ayr, and Kent Darold ENGLAND, also of Mount Ayr, were united in marriage June 17, 1978. The double-ring ceremony was performed by Rev. Paul KNIESS at the Mount Ayr First Baptist church.

Dale BICKEL of Diagonal has been named the Ringgold county Father's Day cattleman of the year by the Ringgold County Cattlemen's Association. He was nominated by his 11-year-old son, Vince.
