County superintendent Vera F. DICKENS received a mark of "perfect" on her annual reports of the schools of Ringgold
County as submitted to the State Department of Public Instruction. This information was conveyed in a letter to
Miss DICKENS from W.A WinteStein, statistician , and which read: "Please accept our congratulations on the fact that
our checkers find your annual report without any errors. May we express our appreciation of the accuracy as it
very materially assists us in our work here."
Roy HACKER has been appointed street commissioner to succeed Leslie E. THOMPSON, who was given a position at
the local state highway maintenance yard. Mr. HACKER assumed his duties on Monday.
Men who will enter the Ringgold County corn husking contest, sponsored by the Mount Ayr Cooperative Club and
Ringgold County Farm Bureau, to be held during the third week of October, are: Dave L. JOVE, Ernest RICKER, and
Floyd CLOUSE of Diagonal; and Kester SICKELS, Russell LAIRD, Glen McKEE and Roy SICKELS, of Mount Ayr. The winner
will represent the county at the district contest the following week in Atlantic.
George MOSBARGER, who is employed by the Iowa State Highway Commission, was transferred last week from the position
of truck driver to head mechanic to take place of W.J. O'BRIEN.
Loretta HOBBS, who recently graduated from the Iowa Beauty School in Des Moines, commenced work Monday at Hazel's
Beauty Shoppe.
The Junior Business Builders Contest, sponsored by the Lawhead Drug Store, closed Saturday and prizes were awarded
to twenty-four girls and boys who turned in the most sales receipt tickets. Among the prizes were a $60 Silver King
bicycle, wrist watches, Kodaks [cameras], coaster wagons, scooters, flashlights, tennnis rackets, billfold sets,
footballs, roller skates, compacts, etc. Winners were Atena KINDER, Donald VANDEREREEK, Richard LINDSTROM, Bobby
DEFENBAUGH, Carroll Dean McANICH, Duane RICHEY, Lucille NEWMAN, Jack FOSTER, Raymond HUTCHINSON, Rojean POTTORFF,
Joan CHRISTIANSEN, Barbara DARRAH, Evelyn SKINNER, Harold SCOTT, Bob TEALE, Jame MICHAEL, U.L. SQUIRE, Bob ROE,
Myron ROERS, Bob GERMAN, Dorothy DAILEY, Janice EMLEY, Maxine HUKILL and Darlene DULANY.
The first P.T.A. meeeting of Liberty No. nine [Flowery Glen School], was held Friday evening. Mrs. H.L. CORNEILSON was elected president;
Mrs. Andrew SWANSON, vice-president, and Evelyn EURITT, secretary.
