Notice of appeal to the Iowa Supreme Court of the decision in what is known as the telephone suit in Mount Ayr was filed yesterday by the Ringgold County Mutual Telephone Compny, its directors and John IRVING, Raymond BUCK, Tom NICHOLS, Donald SMITH and Cora ROBINSON, as individuals, and Cora ROBINSON as general manager and treasurer, Defendants. Plantiffs (appellees) in the action are LeRoy T. CARLSON, Bertel T. MALMQUIST and Perry D. WOODWARD.

Judge H. J. KITTLEMAN, in his decision, in the telephone suit, held for the plaintiffs. The judge's decree, filed on April 11, provided, among other things, for the transfer of 203 (a majority) shares of stock of the telephone company to the plaintiffs.

Postmaster Marion EURITT is the new chairman of the Mount Ayr UMCA board. He succeeds Mrs. Carl F. PETERSON. Other officers are Mrs. Raymond BARKER, vice-chariman; Milton HENDERSON, treasurer; and Supt. C. Arthur HANSEN, district board representitive.

On April 8, Hubert "Whity" WISEMAN, project superintendent of the Raymond Concrete Pile Headquarters in Liberia, West Africa, and Mrs. WISEMAN, the former Jo DAVIS of Mount Ayr, experienced the privilege of entertaining the president of Liberia.

Garry WION, senior athlete, broke his own high school discus record and captured fourth place in the select field of state discus throwers in the high school section of the Drake Relays Saturday morning. His toss measured 147 feet and one-half inch.

Five workers for the March of Dimes received five-year service awards at the annualmeeting of March of Dimes held Monday night in the Legion hall. Those recognized with a certificate and a pin were Mrs. Elmer GOLDNER of Kellerton, Mrs. F. E. HIGGINS of Blockton, Mrs. Dan RISSER of Diagonal, Mrs. Arnold COMBS, of Mount Ayr, and Mrs. Homer LONG of Beaconsfield.

Judge Charles J. LEWIS was injured Sunday in a fall down the steps of the United Presbyterian church, where he had attended morning worship services. Mr. LEWIS suffered a bad scalp wound when his head struck the cement walk, a broken rib and bruises on one arm. He was taken by ambulance to the Ringgold County Hospital for medical attention and then returned to his home, where he is convalescing satisfactorily.

The Mount Ayr Raiders scored two insurance runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to capture the IHSAA spring baseball tournament from the Afton Tigers, 8-5. Mount Ayr advanced to the 1st round of the district at Creston with their win over Afton.

Mary Ellen CORLL was selected by the Mount Ayr Methodist Men's organization to receive its freshman scholarship. Miss CORLL, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald CORLL, is a senior in the Mount Ayr Community high school and this fall plans to attend Iowa Weleyan College in Mount Pleasant. She has been active in the local Methodist Youth Fellowship and is secretary of the Sunday school. The group also elected officers for the coming year: Len R. BEATH, president; Grant A. SHIFFLETT, vice-president; Raymond DRAKE, secretary; and Donald "Jake" DAILEY, treasurer.

  • May 4, a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Stanley JOHNSON, Lamoni
