For the first time since 1966 and the first time since five-on-five [girls'] basketball begain in 1993, the Mount Ayr Community Raiderettes will be
part of the Class 2A state basketball tournament. The girls take a 22-1 record to the state meet -- their only loss coming to Lenox.
Brett SHIELDS was sixth in the 103-pound class in the state Class 2A wrestling meet in Des Moines last weekend, the only one of three Raiders who qualified
for the state met who placed in the top six.
Terry L. GEIGER has been named president by the board of directors of Citizens Bank, which will be moving its home office to Mount Ayr by May. GEIGER
began his duties Monday, March 2, as president of the bank that has offices in Leon, Osceola, Grand River, Hamburg and Riverton.
Members of Aid Association for Lutherans (AAL) Branch 9793, Mount Ayr, have been awarded a gold star rating by the fraternal benefit society in recognition
of exemplary volunteer service to the community.
Mount Ayr Community junior high school's MathCounts team placed eighth out of 3 teams at the annual contest in Council Bluffs. Participating for the team,
coached by James SMITH, were Sean KILGORE, Holly MEESTER, Clara TERRELL and Mark TRULLINGER with Daniel STULL as alternate. Clara TERRELL had the highest
individual score for the team -- a tie for 15th.
Three Diagonal Maroonettes, champions of the Bluegrass conference, have been named to the all-conference listings for the loop announced this week.
Senior Amber SOBOTKA and sophomore Kylene STAMPS were named to the first team and senior BreAnne TEPLY received honorable mention listing. SOBOTKA
was one of two unanimous choices to the first team.
