Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, March 05, 1964

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr Record-News

Eight members of the Mount Ayr volunteer Fire Department, with service records totaling 206 years and one month, have been awarded honorary membership certificates by the organization. During a dinner served Wednesday night of last week in the department's headquarters, certificates were presented to Cecil FUNKHOUSER, Willis HOOD, Dee LAMB, Elmo ROE, Earl SCHARDEIN and C. R. TRIMBLE. Recipients of certificates who were unable to attend were H. B. ELLIS and Burl REYNOLDS.

Two hundred and forty acres of Ringgold county land, owned by the late Jessie P. SAVILLE, were sold Saturday at public auction by the Iowa - Des Moines National Bank, trustee. The two tracts of land, located north and east of Blockton, were sold to Fay B. WARDEN of Grant City, MO for a consideration of $15,200. Tract No. 1, consisting of 160 acres, sold for $60 per acre and the 80 acres of Tract No. 2 brought $70 per acre. The sale was conducted by Col. Dennis OWENS and Jack and Raymond HUTCHINSON, auctioneers and Grant L. HAYES and George FLAGG of Des Moines, attorneys.

Ringgold county has been declared scabies free as of February 25, according to J. N. CHICKEN, county extension director. Mr. CHICKEN received a news release from M. E. Pomeroy, state veterinarian, with the information that the entire sheep population in Ringgold county had been inspected and found free of scabies.

Monday was "moving day" for the industrial arts department of the Mount Ayr Community school district. Chet ROED, instructor, assisted by the custodians of the Mount Ayr school and several boys of the department spent the day moving equipment to its new location, the Ford garage building on South Taylor Street.

The Tall Corn Conference champions, East Union, ousted the Mount Ayr Raiders from further district competition with a 58 to 43 victory Wednesday night of last week in Villisca.
