A Mount Ayr family is facing the new year without their farm home, which was totally destroyed by fire Thursday, Dec. 29. Smoking remains were all that was left following the fire, which took place awhile the Howard KNIGHT family was not at home Thursday afternoon. According to Mount Ayr fire chief Rod STARK, the home was in a rather secluded area three miles southwest of Mount Ayr and the fire was not seen very early. By the time the firemen arrived to the 1 p.m. fire call, there ws not much left of the house, which was completely destroyed. This is the second home in Ringgold county destroyed by fire this winter.

A new year means new terms of office for several Ringgold county officials who were offically sworn in to office Tuesday morning. Magistrate Bob ROE administered the oath of office to Eldon STILL, supervisor; Eloise BROWN, auditor; Lyle MINNICK, sherrif; and James JONES, supervisor. BROWN is a Republican and STILL, MINNICK and JONES are Democrats re-elected in the November election. New county officers always take office on the first working day of the new year, which was January 1, 1989.

A business milestone in Mount Ayr passed this week when Harvey Bros. Motor Co. of Mount Ayr became Glendenning Motor Co. effective January 1. Don and Charles HARVEY of Mount Ayr announced that they had sold their stock in the company to the other stockholder, Lloyd GLENDENNING of Mount Ayr. Harvey Bros. Motor Co. had been in operation in Mount Ayr for 35 1/2 years and GLENDENNING has been an employee and then a stockholder in the company for all but a few months of that time.

The Mount Ayr Regular Baptist Church announces that they have called Don IBBOTSON as their full-time pastor. Pastor IBBOTSON is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Loren IBBOTSON of Tingley. His wife, Ruth, grew up in Hastings, MI. They have one son, Joel, who is seven months old.
