John IRVING, the last of the original board of directors of Rideta Electric Cooperative, Inc., actively serving on
the board of the coop, retired from the board January 1, after over 40 years of service. That period brought electricity
to the farms in Ringgold county, Decatur county and Taylor county area and the cooperative received its name from
during a period of dramatic change in rural Iowa.
A new shoe sales and shoe repair store is scheduled to open in Mount Ayr later this month. F & H Shoe Repair will open
at 111 N. Taylor, north of the Small Corral, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Harold GORBALL of Corydon. The GORBALLS have a
business under the same name in Corydon.
Eleanora CAVENDER of Benton was elected chairman of the Ringgold County Council, Area 14 Agency on Aging at the
Jan. 22 meeting at the Mount Ayr American Legion Hall. Other officers selected were vice-chairman, Cleo CLOUGH of
Tingley; secretary, Bea McGINNIS of Mount Ayr; and treasurer Roy PERKINS of Afton.
Saturday, Feb. 7, has been set as the day to honor the memory of Robert (Boze) WARD. The Mount Ayr Community
Boosters are sponsoring an evening of basketball at the new MACHS gym as they honor Boze. He was serving as
president of the organization at the time of his death in December 1980. He was a great sports enthusiast and backer.
A break-in at the rural home of the Allen LONGS north of Mount Ayr was reported to the Ringgold County Sheriff's
office last week. An undetermined amount of antiques and stained glass windows were taken in the burglary of the home.
