Flags of all 50 states were on display at the fanale of the parade at the Diagonal Labor Day celebration when 50
people on horseback displayed the flags while "America the Beautiful" was played. The string of horsemen and
horses reached more than halfway down Main Street in Diagonal for the parade display. A number of people
were involved in organizing the horse display with flags borrowed from the Sheridan, MO Community Club.
Mount Ayr will be the starting point for the Iowa River City Roundup annual trail ride which begins Saturday,
Sept. 20. The ride will go from Mount Ayr to Council Bluffs, arriving there on Friday, Sept. 27. The trail ride is
to publicize the River City Roundup and Rodeo, a celebration of agricultural and western heritage, held annually
in the Omaha/Council Bluffs area.
Vera MOORE conducts her last Memory Lane class Wednesday, August 27, with residents of Clearview Home in Mount
Ayr. For 15 years she prepared interesting material for residents at Clearview Home and Mount Ayr Health Care
Center where her class was called Country School.
Welcoming people to the grounds of the Mount Ayr Community high school this year is a sign honoring MACHS graduate
Peggy WHITSON, NASA astronaut. Not only does the sign designed last year by Fay HOWIE'S physics class have a
permanent home, but a flower garden was put in place around the sign on the north side of the high school building.
The sign began as a project when John LARSEN and James SAVILLE asked HOWIE'S physics class to design it last year.
A photo taken in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr on Memorial Day 2002 has been selected as a semifinalist in the
International Library of Photography and will be published this fall in a book "Endless Journey." The photo was taken
by Debra HANKINS of Ankeny, daughter of Harold and Verla REPP of Mount Ayr.
A former Ringgold county resident has published a new book through Vantage Press. "It's All The Same Game -- A Sports
Fan's Guide to Success in the Stock Market" is written by Neil RINEHART, a financial consultant and investment broker
who lives in a suburb of Dallas, TX. RINEHART is the son of Joan and Park RINEHART of Mount Ayr. Lynn RINEHART of
Mount Ayr is his brother.
