During a meeting of farmers and businessmen held Friday evening, the Mount Ayr Community Club was organized with a membership of 426. Ten men - five from the county and five from town - were selected as members of an executive committee, which will meet this week to elect officers. Members of the committee are W. B. BUCK, R. C. SMITH, Rev. Raymond M. SHIPMAN, H. H. TRULLINGER, J. W. SHEIL, D. A. VAUGHN, W. F. CHANCE, Bert TEALE, F. E. SHELDON and H. Guy ROBERTS.

Alice MAXWELL, who recently closed a successful term of school at the Siloam School, north and west of Mount Ayr, has accepted a position in the Nichol Book Store and began work Tuesday.

Ralph WOOD has resigned his position as assistant agent for the depot and Clair RHOADES, who for the past few months has been employed there, has been promoted to the position of "early train agent." Zene LONG, a veteran railroader, has accepted the position of helper and right hand man.

BLOCKTON - Beatrice Hope ERVIN, of Kellerton, is organizing a class in piano lessons at this place.

MIDDLE FORK - Rural commencement exercises were held Friday evening at the Middle Fork Church, during which four young ladies and one young man received rural graduation diplomas having taken the examination some time ago and passed. The graduates, each of whom gave recitation, are Gladys GRAY, Mabel COCHRAN, Consuella HOFFMAN, Bernice SAVILLE and Mural RINELS.

DIAGONAL - One Tuesday of last week, a deal was made whereby R. P. BIGGS, of the firm Graham & Biggs, barbers, became sole owner of the shop.

Monday morning, Asa BAILEY and Robert L. BAILEY, began work on a new brick building on the site where Asa's old building formerly stood and the men expect to be partners in the insurance and real estate business.

KELLERTON - George FULLER has sold his interest in the W. E. WHEELER & FULLER barbershop to W. E. WHEELER and is now working at the J. L. HANKINS barbershop.

HIGH SCHOOL NOTES - The seniors are busy practicing their commencement play, "The Thread of Destiny." The cast of characters includes Gladys THOMPSON (leading lady), Elma BALLEW, Grace DARROW, Elva HOOVER, Monda SHROYER, Edna WRIGHT, Ethel BURDETTE, Marie LAIRD, Grace RICHARDS, Josie KELSEY, Frances BENNETT, Gladys STUCK, Eva BEASLEY, Pearl ELLIS, Ona RUSH, Marie STEPHENSON, Charles SIMPSON (leading man), Mel HICKERSON, Cloyd DRAKE, Maurice TENNANT, Burl DAVIS, Earl STUCK, Ned IRVING and Troy HOLLOWAY.

At the May party held Friday afternoon on the tennis court west of Curtis HASS' residence in the east part of the city, Edna WRIGHT, a senior, was crowned by Dorothy DUDLEY and Myrtle SPURRIER. She was attended by Helen INGRAM, Emma JOHNSTON, Ruth TERRELL and Iona WILLIAMS as flowergirls.

  • KELLERTON - Mr. and Mrs. L. FOLTZ are the proud parents of a daughter born to them on April 28.
  • LIBERTY - Born, Saturday, to Mr. and Mrs. J. E. POLLOCK, an eight-pound girl.
