Nathan Smith of Mount Ayr finished in the top half of the competitors at the national Citizen Bee held in Washington, D.C. last week. Smith placed 55th out of the 113 top students from across the nation who took part in the contest.

Hawkeye Bank and Trust in Mount Ayr has a new Agriculture loan officer this week. Jason Reynolds has joined the staff at the bank. Reynolds is an Indianola native and has worked for the Farmers Home Administration, the Small Business Administration and for the past six years worked in commercial lending for the Tandy Corporation of Fort Worth, TX.

Sgt. Michael G. Horstmeyer of Lincoln, ND, formerly of Mount Ayr, returned from Saudi Arabia Friday evening to Fort McCoy, Wisconsin. His wife Misty and son Chase met him Monday at Devil's Lake, ND. Mike is with the North Dakota National Guard and spent nine months in Saudi purifying and hauling water for Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
