Kicking off the Christmas activity in Ringgold county will be the 15th annual Christmas tour of homes in Mount Ayr, set
for Saturday night. Homes to be visited include the homes of Jerry and Mary BAKER of rural Clearfield, Kim GREENLAND in
Mount Ayr and Joe and Donna WARIN in rural Maloy. The Church of Jesus Christ, Mount Ayr Restoration Branch in Mount
Ayr will be the featured church this year.
A former Mount Ayr resident will be presenting his doctoral piano recital Friday, Dec. 5, at the University of Missouri,
Kansas City. Nathan SMITH will be presenting the final concert to finish up his doctoral degree in piano performance
in a concert at Grant hall on the UMKC campus in Kansas City, MO. He will be graduating from UMKC at ceremonies December
19.
A Mount Ayr student will be singing when the Iowa Western Community College concert choir prsents its winter concert this
weekend. Michael SMITH of Mount Ayr is a choir member.
Five Mount Ayr Community high school students will be taking part in the Creston Little All-State band festival in
Creston Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 3-4. Students taking part include Tim STORHOFF, trumpet; Kinda FISHER, contrabass
clarinet; Corinna STRAIGHT, flute; Lucas SMITH, trombone; and Chris KING, tuba.
Phoenix, AZ-based band Junk Ditch Road, named after a former Mount Ayr landmark, will be releasing their debut CD this
month. Since forming in 2001, the band has built a faithful following in the Phoenix metro area and as far away as Iowa.
Mount Ayr native Cody ROE and TJ CASEY (raised in Orrville, OH) began as an acoustic guitar duo, performing at coffee house
shows in Tempe, AZ. Soon the group was joined by Terry KOTTOM on Mandolin and banjo and Dave KLAUS on upright bass.
Both brought years of true bluegrass and sound experience to the band.
