Neighbors and friends gathered Friday morning, July 22, and piled bales of hay for Dale POTTORFF, who suffered the
loss of part of his foot July 15, when it was caught in the cylinder of his combine. The following men assisted
with the "good neighbor" deed: Ray POTTORFF, Albert POTTORFF, Lyle GILLILAND, Frank GILLILAND, Merle HIGHTSHOE, Allen
HIGHTHOE, Shellie SCOTT, Francis LEEPER, Loren BAKER, George COOK, Duane JOHNSON, Darrel WILCOXSON, Dick BARNES,
Ivan POTTORFF, Reuel MAY, Raymond ZINN, Howard TULL, Wesley JONES, Glen CALDWELL, Cloyd LEEPER, Bryan COMER, Doyle
TRULLINGER, Homer RICHARDSON, Lonard MAULDIN and Wayne BOOTH. The ladies who served dinner at the noon hour were the
Mesdames Frank GILLILAND, Lyle GILLILAND, Leonard MAULDIN, George COOK and Merle HIGHTSHOE. Others who sent food were
the Mesdames Dick BARNES, Darrel WILCOXSON, Homer RICHARDSON, Bob RICHARDSON, Shellie SCOTT, Harry SCOTT and
Ray POTTORFF.
Members of the Russian farm delegation were cordially received Thursday afternoon when they visited farms in
southern Iowa. Their gracious hosts in Ringgold county were Mr. and Mrs. Ralph LONG at their 150-acre farm in
Washington township. Approximately 150 interested persons gathered at the LONG farm to greet the visitors.
Interest of the Soviet leaders for the day was divided. Two were in Illinois visiting farm machinery manufacturing
plants, some remained at the Floyd McCOMAS farm in Clarke county, while three members of the delegation, an interpreter
and a representative of the Tass News Agency visited the LONG farm.
John FAUST, manager of the Farmers Supply Company in Mount Ayr, suffered severe injuries to his head and scalp last
Wednesday afternoon in a two-car, pickup and truck pileup, two miles southwest of the municipal airport in Des Moines.
Mr. FAUST was taken to the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, where he received treatment and underwent surgery. His
injuries included a severe cut on the forehead, sustained when his head struck the windshield of his pickup truck.
Mrs. FAUST reports his condition os satisfactory and that he expects to be able to return to Mount Ayr the last of the week.
Anna Mae BARKER, 26 month-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pearl BARKER, drowned Sunday evening in a livestock watering tank
on her parents' farm, south of Conway. The little girl had wandered out of her parents' sight for only a few minutes
when they began a search for her and found her body in the tank of water. She is survived by her parents, four brothers,
a sister and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond BARKER of Diagonal and Mr. and Mrs. Guy POORE of Blockton.
Leo HACKER, who represents the Iowa Life Insurance Company in Ringgold county, was recently notified by company
officials that he ranked first among all salesmen in the state in the issuance of all kinds of insurance during the
month of June.
