Royce DAVIS won the Mount ayr city golf title in a tournament played Sunday on the local course. DAVIS shot an even
par 108 for 27 holes to easily win the championship and had a 36 for each of his three rounds. Dick YASHACK was second
with a 115.
Fire caused considerable damage Saturday afternoon to the roof of the John H. DENHART residence property in northwest
Mount Ayr. The blaze evidently started from Mr. DENHART'S effort to destroy a swarm of wasps under the eaves.
The Ringgold County ASC Committee announces the appointment of Gerald WATKINS of Bayard as the manager of the ASC office
in Mount Ayr. The appointment has been approved by the state office. Mr. WATKINS assumed his duties August 26. Mrs.
Carolyn DENHART has been serving as acting manager.
One Kellerton and eight Mount Ayr baton twirlers will compete for state honors in the 1959 championship tournament during the
Iowa State Fair in Des Moines. They are Cindy BRIMMER of Kellerton and Connie Sue SANDAGE, Debbie BUTRICK, Anita Rae
DREDGE, Linda CORLL, Patti STULL, Ann and Sue JOHNSTON and Kayla LaRae SMITH of Mount Ayr.
Schools opened Monday, August 31, in the Mount Ayr Community schools. There were 1,210 pupils entrolled in the schools within the district and 39
of the pupils in the Mount Ayr district were sent to the Tingley elementary school on a tuition basis. The elementary
enrollment of the schools within the district was 872 in the seven town schools and three rural schools and 39 of the
Mount Ayr community school district pupils enrolled in the Tingley school. The total high school enrollment on
Tuesday was 338.
Two teams of Ringgold county 4-H boys will participate this week at the Iowa State Fair in state contests. The grain
crops judging team, coached by Melvin GRAY, and composed of Jerry BARKER, Joe DENHART and Royce RINEHART of Mount
Ayr and Jack VICKER of Diagonal will compete Friday morning. Dickie STEPHENS of Delphos and Dan CARR of Maloy
will accompany the team. The livestock judging team, members of which are Bob ALLEN and Jim SMITH of Tingley and Dale
BICKEL and Gerald NOBLE of Mount Ayr will compete September 5.
Dr. and Mrs. Charles W. LAWHEAD will leave September 10 from Creston for New York City where they will attend the
centennial session of the American Dental Association.
A new Maytage-equipped coin-operated Mount Ayr Launderette opened for business recently. The new business is owned and
operated by Norman L. BARKER of Winterset.
