RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, October 02, 1980

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

An arrest was made in connection with the murder case of Alberta MICKAEL, Ringgold county sheriff's department officials confirmed last Tuesay evening. Arrested in Des Moines was Ronald Dean TODD, a grandnephew of Mrs. MICKAEL. Taken into custody Tuesday evening, he was to be transferred to the Ringgold county jail Wednesday by Ringgold county sheriff's deputies.

The arrest was the latest detail in the investigation of the case, a break that Ringgold county Sheriff Elbert STRANGE hoped for after silver certificates taken from Mrs. MICKAEL'S home Sept. 21 began to turn up at various Des Moines businesses. Earlier this week, Sheriff STRANGE had said that robbery appeared to be the motive in the slaying and that some $2,000 in cash -- much of it in silver certificates -- was stolen from the home at the time of the homicide. A collection of silver coins, which also included some foreign coins, was also taken, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation announced.

Queen candidates for MACHS Homcoming chosen by the senior class were Kelly HOWIE, Diane NIEMAN, Shelly REYNOLDS, Sandy WEEDA and Terri KRAMER.

Candidates for king at the MACHS Homecoming activities included Donnie GROSS, Ted STILL, Gregg CANNON, Roger DOLECHECK and Brian HENRY.

Cucumbers over two and one-half feet long and weighing up to 14 pounds have come out of the garden of Mildered VOSLER, Rout 1, Mount Ayr, this summer. Though most of the cucumbers were picked when they were smaller, she allowed some of the vegetables to swell to extra-large proportions. The cucumbers are armenian cucumbers and the seed was sent from Las Vegas, NV by Mrs. VOSLER'S daughter.

A 1970 Buick driven by Rodney Ray WHITE of rural Mount Ayr received $500 damage when it collided with a calf nine miles southeast of Mount Ayr on P-54 gravel road near the Frank DREDGE residence. The 800-pound calf, valued at $600, was killed in the accident. WHITE was not injured and no charges were filed. He was driving south on the road at the time of the accident according to the Ringgold county sheriff's office.
