Leroy BLESSMAN of Mount Ayr was honored on his retirement following 43 years of service with Iowa Southern Utilities at a reception at the Mount Ayr ISU office Tuesday afternoon. Jim MAHAN will head the Mount Ayr office following BLESSMAN'S retirement March 1.

Cody SHAY was runner-up in the 130-pound weight class and Scott ENGLAND failed to crack the 135-pound top six at the 1989State Wrestling Tournament at Veterans Auditorium in Des Moines Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

BreAnn WEEDA, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick WEEDA of Tingley, was chosen as princess of the Iowa Miniature Horse Club in a ceremony at the Ramada Inn in Des Moines recently. This is te first year the club has chosen a princess and queen. BreAnn assists with showing and caring for miniature horses with her grandparents, Donald and Helen WEEDA of Tingley. Other grandparents are Bob and Bea ROE of Mount Ayr.

Farm Bureau members in Ringgold county have launched a petition drive against more taxes. History has shown that when more money is raised through taxes, even more is spent, said Royce DIVELEY of Kellerton, Ringgold County Farm Bureau president. He said that since 1980, tax revenues have gone up $383 billion but spending increased by $465 billion. And studies have shown that for every $1 in new revenues, the governent sentds $1.58, he added.

A former Ringgold county resident has been named a district coach of the year in the southeast and south central district of the state. David DAUGHTON, son of Bill and Nancy DAUGHTON, is the wrestling coach for the Wayne Falcons from Corydon and was named for the district area which stretches from I-35 on the west to as far east as Centerville and North Mahaska.
