Council R. C. SMITH has placed in the hands of Mayor MILLER his resignation as a member of the town council, to take effect immediately.
Ill health is assigned as the reason for resigning. Charles V. AGEE, one of the town's progressive businessmen, was elected to succeed
Mr. SMITH.
Yesterday was a record day in the office of County Recorder C. E. THOMPSON. Fifty-six instruments were recorded, fees for which ranged
from 50 cents to $170 and totaling $43.35. Every instrument was on the records and indexed by 7 o'clock in the evening. Mr. THOMPSON
and the deputy recorder, Zella CAMPBELL, were assisted by Mrs. THOMPSON.
The Loyal Men of the Christian Church have opened a free employment bureau for the unemployed and it will be carried on throughout the
summer. They will be able to furnish help for the county in all kinds of lines and by filing application at the newstand will furnish you
work in order of your application. A fee of 25 cents will be charged to the employer for your postage and advertising.
HIGH SCHOOL NOTES - The Junto Literary Society gave its second monthly program Wednesday night in the high school auditorium, and those who
appeared on the program were Ernest TENNANT, Everett GALLOWAY, Ned IRVING, Wayne HICKERSON, Warren HUGHES, Ernest MOFFATT, Emery
SCHLAPIA, George IRVING, John REYNARD, Emlin SMITH, Don SMITH, Raymond BRETZ, Mel HICKERSON, Harry SPURRIER, Maurie TENNANT, Murice WHITE,
Troy HOLLOWAY, Otto HALEY, Raymond HARROLD, Cloyd DRAKE, Lyle SPENCER, Clive KETCH, John POOR, Todd EVANS and Frank KEATING. The junior
class held a farewell party Monday evening in the Christian Church in honor of Lucy KIDNEY, a member of the class, who with her father and
brothers will soon move to Minnesota. Before the guests departed, Miss Lucy was presented with a black and blue pillowtop a gift from the class.
ELLSTON - Dr. J. W. HILL, of West Liberty, has decided to locate in Ellston. He shipped his household goods here Monday and is now ready
to do business. Dr. HILL is a graduate of a Number 1 medical college and has had hospital training and eight years in active practice. This
makes three doctors in Ellston. Fred TRISLER now has charge of the harness shop formerly owned by James GLASGOW.
LEE - Tom MOFFETT left Sunday for Kirksville, MO., where he will study osteopathy.
A pretty wedding took place yesterday, March 4, in the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. SCHLAPIA of this city, when their daughter, Rossie
Alberta, became the wife of Charlie R. TRIMBLE, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank TRIMBLE, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank TRIMBLE, of Rice township.
The ceremony was performed by Rev. Charles M. EDMONDSON, pastor of the Methodist Church at Diagonal. The young couple will go to a
hosuekeeping at once on a farm in Rice Township.
At the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. C. GAINES, of Benton, on March 2, occurred the marriage of heir daughter, Venetia, to Arthur HALEY, of near
Maloy. The ceremony was performed by Elder Dennis DILLE, pastor of the Christian Church.

POE - Mr. and Mrs. Ora HARSH are the proud parents of a son, born February 26.
